Tokayev: Current situation in world speaks of crisis of civilization

The growing trend of the practical fusion of ultra-nationalism and patriotism is a source of serious concern, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said at the opening of the VIII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, Report informs.

The head of state noted that the current global situation speaks of a crisis of civilization: "The shift in concepts taking place before our eyes is disorienting, first and foremost, young people. On the other hand, we are witnessing a disturbing trend of a clash between right-wing conservative and liberal ideologies, which is leading to political destabilization in a number of countries."

According to the president, these issues are receiving increased attention in Kazakhstan.

"All attempts to undermine or denigrate this policy and unity in diversity, including the free use of the languages ​​of the peoples permanently residing in our country in public service and public spaces, are suppressed and will receive due legal consideration in accordance with the concept of 'law and order,'" the president emphasized. 

This year's event is being held under the slogan "Dialogue of Religions: Synergy for the Future." More than 100 delegations from 60 countries are expected to participate in the congress, including spiritual leaders of Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism, Hinduism, Taoism, Zoroastrianism, Shintoism, as well as representatives of international organizations.

Azerbaijan is represented at the congress by Sheikh ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, chairman of the Caucasus Muslim Board.
