Russia considering law on mountainous areas

The need to adopt a special law on the development of mountainous regions is being considered in Russia at the federal level, Russian State Duma Deputy Aleksey Lavrinenko said at the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly at WUF13, Report informs.

According to him, the corresponding legislative initiative is currently being developed by the Russian Ministry of Economic Development.

"At the same time, certain legal mechanisms for stimulating the economic and regional development of Russia's mountainous regions have already been created," Lavrinenko noted.

He emphasized that in Russia's mountainous regions, as in many other countries, adverse weather conditions significantly impact all aspects of life.

"To address such a complex set of problems, appropriate approaches and mechanisms for state and municipal governance must be developed. Since the specific natural and climatic conditions for life and economic activity in the mountains are permanent, measures to support the population's livelihoods must also be permanent," the deputy stated.

According to him, strategic planning should play a key role in this work.

"We're talking about developing and implementing plans for the socio-economic development of mountainous areas," Lavrinenko emphasized.
