Rubio emphasizes importance of Washington Summit

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio highlighted the significance of the historic summit between Armenia and Azerbaijan, held with the participation of US President Donald Trump.

According to Report, the Secretary of State"s message on the occasion of Armenia"s Independence Day emphasizes the importance of the Washington meeting in terms of regional cooperation. Rubio also recalled the allocation of $145 million to Armenia for the implementation of the "Trump Route" (TRIPP - a 42-kilometer section of the Zangazur Corridor that will pass through Armenian territory).

On August 8 in Washington, the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, in the presence of the US President, signed a joint declaration consisting of seven points. One of the points concerns the launch of the Zangezur Corridor ("Trump Route") as part of efforts to unblock regional communications. In addition, the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia initialed an agreement on the establishment of peace and intergovernmental relations.
