Pashinyan proposes ending benefits for Armenians living abroad

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has proposed revoking state benefit payments to Armenian citizens who have moved abroad, Report informs via the local press.

Pashinyan said some families keep Armenian citizenship only to receive benefits while registering their children as foreign citizens. He suggested that benefits should be granted only to families whose children hold Armenian citizenship or reside in Armenia.

"This is the right approach. Otherwise, we end up financing emigration, which makes no sense but has continued for many years. If a person does not maintain ties with Armenia, why should the country pay them anything?" the prime minister stated.
