NGO leader arrested in Georgia for spying for two countries

The State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) has arrested the head of a local non-governmental organization (NGO) on charges of espionage, Report informs.
According to officials, the individual is accused of collaborating with the intelligence services of two foreign countries.
At a briefing, authorities stated that over the years, the suspect systematically collected intelligence information for material gain and to serve the interests of foreign states, and then transferred this data to foreign intelligence agencies.
It was revealed that the accused maintained contacts with foreign intelligence representatives both through direct meetings and electronic communication. For coordination and instructions, he also held periodic meetings abroad.
The detainee allegedly created information platforms and organized various events inside Georgia under the financial support and directives of foreign intelligence services.
An investigation has been launched under Article 314, Part 1 of the Georgian Criminal Code, which covers espionage. The offense carries a penalty of 8 to 12 years of imprisonment.
