Kyrgyzstan's Cabinet Chairman Adylbek Kasymaliev has signed an order regarding the dress code for civil servants, local media reported.
According to Kasymaliev, employees of state institutions should stop wearing suit jackets and work in shirts instead.
"Yesterday the weather was cold because of the rain, but today the sun is already shining. Starting tomorrow, the Cabinet's order must be fully implemented at work," he said.
The head of government noted that a similar practice has been introduced in Japan to save electricity.
"In Japan, they started wearing shirts without ties to conserve electricity, and as a result, the state saved billions," Kasymaliev said.
According to him, abandoning suits would help reduce the use of air conditioners in government offices.
"Right now, we work in suits and turn on air conditioners. If we simply wear shirts, there will be no need to use air conditioning. We must save electricity," he added.
