Today at a White House meeting US President Joe Biden and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will discuss a wide range of issues, including the situation around Ukraine and possible sanctions against Russia in the event of a Russian "invasion".
Report informs citing TASS that a high-ranking representative of the Washington administration told reporters about this at a special briefing on the upcoming negotiations.
“The leaders have a very busy agenda for the tomorrow’s discussion. We expect them to talk a lot about the situation in Ukraine and about Russia. They will most likely discuss their common concern about the increase in the Russian military presence on the border with Ukraine, as well as their common commitment to both current diplomatic efforts to push the Russian Federation to de-escalate, as well as ongoing efforts to ensure the deterrence of further Russian aggression. In this regard, they will discuss our ongoing efforts to prepare a powerful package of sanctions, which will entail serious costs [for Moscow] in the event of a further Russian invasion of Ukraine," she said.
"In addition to that, I expect the leaders to want to discuss their support for the Western Balkans - this region in Europe is a priority for both the US and Germany - and how we can continue to promote stability in the region and continue to make progress on the issue of further European integration of the Western Balkans," the administration official added.
According to her, in addition to this, the US president and the German chancellor will also discuss issues related to China.
