Hakan Fidan: Integration with Türkiye has become necessity for EU

Deeper integration with Türkiye has become a strategic necessity for the European Union, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said at a joint press conference with his German counterpart Johann Wadephul in Berlin, Report informs via Anadolu Agency.
Fidan said that the first and most concrete step would be the renewal of the EU Customs Union.
Wadephul said NATO members supported each other. He noted that Türkiye was demonstrating impressively that it bore responsibility in this tense world.
According to him, the NATO summit to be held in Ankara places Türkiye in an important position in terms of strengthening the alliance.
Wadephul said Germany supported deepening strategic ties between Türkiye and the EU.
He stressed that Türkiye, as an important NATO ally and a key trade partner of the EU, should be included in the development of all industrial and defense policies.
Fidan is visiting Berlin for the third meeting of the Türkiye-Germany Strategic Dialogue Mechanism.
