Georgian President, Speaker of Turkish parliament discuss South Caucasus dev’ts

Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili met with Numan Kurtulmus, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, in Ankara, according to the Georgian Presidential Administration, Report informs.

The meeting was held in a one-on-one format, during which the sides discussed existing bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Georgia and Türkiye, as well as prospects for deepening ties across various sectors.

President Kavelashvili expressed gratitude for Türkiye’s support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also emphasized Georgia’s interest in holding the next session of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council between the two countries.

The situation in the South Caucasus was a key topic of discussion. The Georgian President stated that his country supports the principle of “peaceful coexistence” in the region and is always ready to contribute to the promotion of peace and constructive cooperation. He welcomed the steps taken by Azerbaijan and Armenia toward lasting peace, noting that such efforts would significantly contribute to regional stability.

The parties also discussed the Russia–Ukraine conflict in the context of broader security challenges.

Kavelashvili highlighted that regional and strategic projects implemented between Georgia and Türkiye serve as examples of effective cooperation, sustainable development, and reliable partnership.

The Georgian President is on an official visit to Türkiye with his spouse. As part of the visit, he held both one-on-one and expanded meetings with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
