Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, has stated that differences have emerged between the United States and the European Union in their approach to fundamental values, Report informs.
Papuashvili noted that following the change in US administration, support for human rights and the rule of law has become more visible, while Brussels appears to be falling behind in these areas.
"There is a value gap between the US and Brussels today. The US, under its new administration, clearly stands for human rights. But we see Brussels lagging behind, disconnected from global developments," Papuashvili emphasized.
He also accused the European Union of supporting non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that operate outside democratic frameworks, instead of condemning acts of violence.
"Everyone condemns violence, yet the spokesperson of the European Commission supports a criminal. EU bureaucrats are funding anti-democratic actions. On October 4, NGOs involved in organizing violent acts were financed from the EU budget, and ambassadors don"t hesitate to justify this to the Georgian public," he added.
