Georgia elects new Patriarch

The voting process for the election of a new Catholicos-Patriarch of the Georgian Orthodox Church has been completed during an expanded council session held at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Tbilisi.

According to Report's Georgian bureau, all 39 members of the Holy Synod participated in the vote.

As a result of the election, Metropolitan Shio (Elizbar Mujiri) has been elected as the new Catholicos-Patriarch of all Georgia, becoming the 142nd Patriarch of the Georgian Orthodox Church.

He received 22 votes in the election process.
