CIS statistical bodies are currently working on implementing the international statistical standard, the System of National Accounts 2025 (SNA 2025), Konstantin Laikam, chairman of the CIS Interstate Statistical Committee, said at the third CIS International Statistical Forum, held in Baku, Report informs.
"The UN Statistical Commission adopted the System of National Accounts (SNA 2025) at its 56th session in March of this year. The UN Economic and Social Council recommended that this system be considered the international standard for compiling national accounts statistics. In accordance with these decisions, extensive work is underway worldwide to implement the SNA 2025. The Statistical Committee and the CIS countries are also making significant efforts in this direction. We have already begun translating the new standard into Russian, and meetings of CIS specialists and online training courses are being held," Laikam said.
According to him, at the same 56th session, the UNStat also approved the principles of recommendations for population and living censuses.
"A new round of censuses has also been launched. Population and national services of all countries are involved in this work. The Conference of European Statisticians has already approved recommendations for the 2030 census round. The Statistical Committee and the CIS countries are also participating in this work, within the framework of which we have begun, incidentally, developing a dynamic population model. The UNECE Steering Group on Population and Migration Statistics plays a crucial role in the development of census methodology. Another global project is the Global Programme for International Comparisons Based on Purchasing Power Parity," he noted.
Laikam also emphasized that a regional project for the development of CIS statistics is currently being implemented by the CISStatCommittee jointly with the national statistical services of the Commonwealth countries.
"An important goal of this project is to strengthen the statistical community in the CIS," he added.
According to him, Azerbaijan's statistical agencies enjoy well-deserved respect in the international statistical community. "The address by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev (to the forum participants) demonstrates the level of respect for official statistics," Laikam emphasized.
