JSC NC KazMunayGas (KMG) and the American technology company LanzaJet have signed a framework agreement for the construction of a SAF jet fuel plant in Kazakhstan, Report informs referring to KMG.
The document officially approved the results of the feasibility study and launched the front-end engineering design (FEED) phase, which will develop solutions for the construction of the future plant.
The agreement was signed in New York during a meeting between KMG CEO Askhat Khassenov, LanzaJet CEO Jimmy Samartzis, and Vice President of Commercial Affairs Stephane Thion.
Previous market analysis indicates that SAF consumption in Kazakhstan could reach 70,000 tons per year by 2030. "This project will positively impact the development of the biofuel market, improving the environmental performance of aviation, and our country's transit potential," noted Askhat Khassenov.
SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) is an environmentally friendly aviation fuel produced from renewable, non-petroleum resources. Its use in blending with traditional Jet A-1 jet fuel reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 95%.
