WSJ: Trump administration considers pardoning 250 people

The US administration is considering the possibility of President Donald Trump pardoning 250 people, The Wall Street Journal wrote, citing sources familiar with the matter.

Report informs that the move could be dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.

According to the WSJ, work on the plan is still at a preliminary stage. The pardons could be announced on July 4, US Independence Day, or on June 14, Flag Day, which also coincides with Trump's birthday.

The newspaper said the final decision on the matter rests with Trump.

The WSJ also noted that some White House officials have expressed concern about the initiative, as Trump's pardon policy has already drawn criticism from both Democrats and Republicans.

According to the newspaper, Trump has already signed nearly 1,600 pardons during his second presidential term, a record among US presidents.
