WHO chief travels to DR Congo amid Ebola outbreak

World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has traveled to the Democratic Republic of the Congo amid the rapid spread of an Ebola outbreak.

According to Report, the WHO chief announced the trip on his page on X.

"16 times, this country has defeated Ebola. The 17th will be no different. But we must act now, together," he said.

A major Ebola outbreak linked to the Bundibugyo strain is currently spreading in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and neighboring Uganda. According to the WHO, around 900 suspected cases and more than 220 deaths have been recorded.
