Szijjártó: EU should halt financial aid to Ukraine and demand audit

The corruption scandal in Ukraine should affect the European Union's (EU) financial support; member states must suspend payments and demand an urgent financial audit, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó stated in Brussels ahead of the Foreign Affairs Council meeting, Report informs.

The minister sharply criticized the latest letter from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to national governments, which outlined the plan for financial support to Ukraine over the next two years.

"If EU leadership in Brussels functioned normally, they would immediately suspend payments to Ukraine and demand a financial audit to learn how European taxpayers' money is being spent. The entire world's media is writing about this corrupt system," Szijjártó said.

The Hungarian minister described as "madness" the fact that, under these circumstances, the European Commission president sent a letter to member states requesting an additional €100 billion in aid for Ukraine.
