Spain's Foreign Ministry rejects calls to sever diplomatic ties with Israel

Spanish Foreign Ministry spokesman José Manuel Albares has rejected calls from coalition partners to sever diplomatic relations with Israel, Report informs referring to EFE.

Albares was speaking in Luxor on the final day of the Spanish monarch's state visit to Egypt.

"We are now focused on making decisions, as this is absolutely necessary to prevent Israel from continuing its military actions in Gaza and this endless slaughter," he said.

He believes the time has come "to end the forced displacement of the population and the blockade that is preventing normal food supplies from reaching the Gaza Strip."

"The time has come to take concrete decisions and send a clear message to Israel: they cannot expect normal relations from the European Union as if nothing has happened," the Spanish minister emphasized.

On September 16, the Spanish Foreign Ministry announced it would summon Israel's Chargé d'Affaires in protest against comments by Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar.
