Rodrigo Labardini: Global South needs to address economic inequality

The concept of the Global South has become one of the most influential in contemporary international relations, but countries in the region need to unite and address economic inequality, former Mexican Ambassador to Azerbaijan Juan Rodrigo Labardini said at the General Assembly of the Global South NGO Platform in Baku, Report informs.

He emphasized that the Global South should be viewed not only as a geographic category, but also as a set of political, economic, and historical conditions.

"The Global South has never been completely united, and we need to unite," he stated.

According to him, several large countries in the Global South - India, Brazil, South Africa, Mexico, Türkiye, and South Korea - already wield significant regional and global influence.

He added that significant economic inequality remains within the Global South, which requires special attention.
