ROAS: Housing sector in Arab region faces multi-level challenges

The housing sector in the Arab region faces multi-level challenges, including economic disparities, climate risks, and the consequences of instability, Nihal El-Megharbel, Housing Expert at the Regional Office for Arab States (ROAS) of UN-Habitat, said during a panel discussion at the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.

El-Megharbel mentioned that the region cannot be viewed as a single whole, as it includes countries ranging from high-income states to those experiencing conflict and institutional instability.

She emphasized that despite these differences, the overall context of the region is defined by intensifying climate risks and their direct impact on the housing sector: "In the Arab region, housing remains extremely important, especially against the backdrop of growing climate and economic challenges."
