Philippines quake triggers tsunami advisory in Japan

The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a tsunami advisory for Japan's Pacific coastline, from Okinawa Prefecture to Ibaraki Prefecture. Some areas have recorded tsunami as high as 20 centimeters, Report informs via NHK World Japan.

The agency said Monday morning's quake that triggered the advisory was near the Philippines and had a magnitude of 8.2. The JMA is urging those in and near the sea to leave those areas immediately.

The JMA says Chichijima Island, located south of Tokyo, and Kushimoto Town in Wakayama Prefecture recorded 20-centimeter-high tsunami waves. Tanegashima Island in Kagoshima Prefecture has also seen a wave of 10 centimeters. Waves of a few centimeters in height have been also reported elsewhere.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii says 46-centimeter-high waves reached Davao in the Philippines.

In Indonesia, meteorological authorities said 75-centimeter-high tsunami were observed on Sangihe Island. The area is south of where the quake struck.
