Nepalese president's office dismisses reports of his resignation - UPDATED

The Office of the President of Nepal has denied reports of his resignation, Report informs via India Today.

"Contrary to reports that he [the President] stepped down amid violent protests, he has not submitted his resignation,"  the President"s office said, as quoted by the publication.

Nepalese President Ram Chandra Poudel has resigned, Report informs referring to Indian media.

The protesters said that the country 'has come under their control' and called for preparations for elections to begin.

The president's office is on fire in Kathmandu, the prime minister has fled by helicopter, and the airport is closed, preventing foreign tourists from leaving the country.

The media also reported that protesters attacked former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, his wife and the current foreign minister, and set fire to the house of former prime minister Nath Khanal.

His wife, Rajyalakshmi Chitrakar, was in the house at the time of the arson, and according to media reports, she died.

The private residence of Prime Minister Sharma Oli in the city of Balkot was also damaged, as well as several residences of ministers and politicians. A huge number of protesters also smashed and set fire to media outlets in Kathmandu and Kantipur.

Air India and IndiGo issued an alert to suspend all flights to and from Kathmandu after authorities closed the airport due to unrest in the city.
