India reduces oil imports from Russia

India has reduced the import of Russian oil by approximately 28%, India's Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri told Bloomberg, Report informs.

According to the minister, supply has decreased from 1.8 million barrels per day to 1.3 million barrels and could decrease further. This is related to the emergence of new supply sources. While India previously purchased oil from 27 countries, now their number has reached 41.

India, the world's third-largest oil importer, is trying to develop energy trade with Canada and the USA. Currently, the country purchases energy carriers worth 15 billion dollars annually from the USA. Canada could become a major energy supplier to India. India has begun an interagency dialogue with Canada in the energy sector.

Hardeep Singh Puri noted that India plans to increase the share of gas in its energy balance up to 15%.
