Guterres: Peace agreements between Baku, Yerevan - glimmer of hope

The peace agreements between Azerbaijan and Armenia reached in Washington are a positive development for the entire world, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said during the 80th session of the General Assembly, Report informs.
The secretary-general called for an end to ongoing armed conflicts around the world, including settler expansion, violence, and the looming threat of annexation in the Gaza Strip. From Haiti to Yemen, Myanmar, the Sahel, and beyond, we must choose the path of peace based on international law.
The past year has brought glimmers of hope: for example, the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand and the US-brokered agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
But too many crises remain unchecked, the secretary-general emphasized. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev visited Washington on August 7-8.
During the visit, the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, brokered by US President Donald Trump, signed a joint declaration at the White House.
Furthermore, the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia, in the presence of the three countries' leaders, initialed the Agreement on Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations.
