The European Commission is in contact with the governments of Hungary and Slovakia after pumping through the Druzhba oil pipeline was halted due to strikes on it, EU spokesperson Eva Hrnčirova said at a briefing in Brussels.
“We do not have clear information on who attacked the interconnector,” the EU spokesperson said, emphasizing the importance of maintaining energy security in the region.
She added that the Commission is in constant contact with the authorities of Hungary and Slovakia to monitor the situation: “Importantly, the suspension (of pumping) does not affect supply security, which is always a priority for the European Commission.”
Earlier, Russian media reported that oil supplies from Russia to Hungary and Slovakia via the Druzhba pipeline have been completely halted. According to their reports, the pipeline’s operation was suspended as a result of an attack by Ukraine. The timeline for restoring the pipeline is currently unknown.
