EU may suspend flights from South Africa due to new COVID variant

The EU Commission will propose, in close coordination with the Member States, to activate the emergency brake to stop air travel from the southern African region due to the variant of concern B.1.1.529, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen tweeted, Report informs.
In African countries, the new strain has already been found in more than 80 people. Because of this, the UK and Israel are suspending flights to six African countries.
The World Health Organization will hold an emergency meeting on November 26.
