EU Foreign Ministers agree on new package of sanctions against Russia

At a scheduled meeting in Brussels on Monday, the EU foreign ministers agreed on a new package of sanctions against Russia, which does not contain additional restrictions on energy supplies, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of Hungary Peter Szijjártó told reporters.

"New EU sanctions against Russia have been agreed, which so far mainly concern clarification of the rules and do not contain any restrictions on the transportation of energy carriers," he was quoted by the MTI news agency.

Szijjarto also noted that "despite the efforts of some EU member states," the new package does not include sanctions against Gazprombank, through which payments for Russian gas supplies to Europe pass.

The new package of sanctions includes 48 individuals, including one of the vice-premiers of the Russian government and several regional leaders, the minister said.

"48 more individuals will be added to the EU sanctions list, including the Russian Deputy Prime Minister and several regional political leaders, as well as nine organizations," he said. Szijjarto noted that the seventh package of sanctions against Russia will be finalized later on Monday by the permanent representatives of the EU countries at a meeting in Brussels.
