Information from eight cities around the world has become the basis for creating the world's first benchmark dataset for training artificial intelligence (AI) models, stated Claudio Persello, Professor at the University of Twente, during discussions held as part of WUF13 in Baku, according to Report.
He said the database will help address the shortage and outdated nature of information needed for mapping informal settlements.
During the project, researchers engaged local organizations through workshops to collect data on community needs.
"To improve the quality of mapping, an active learning cycle is used in collaboration with communities," he said.
Persello stressed that the research is funded by the European Space Agency and is aimed at supporting local authorities in preparing reports on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
