Azerbaijan's Ministry of Defense has dismissed reports in Armenian media according to which a firefighting vehicle arriving at the scene of fire at 20:40 on August 17 to contain the blaze was allegedly shelled by Azerbaijani army units.
"Our units were watching the fire that started at around 18:00 in the foothill not far from the Gaybali settlement in the territory of Azerbaijan, where Russian peacekeepers are temporarily stationed. Russian peacekeepers were informed about the ignition to prevent its spread to a larger area and to put it out. The information spread by the opposite side about the alleged shooting at the firefighting vehicle by our armed units is untrue. Russian peacekeepers recorded no such cases," the ministry said.
