It is impossible to talk about sustainable cities without solving the water problem, Zeynep Bodur, President and CEO of Türkiye's Kale Group group of companies, said during her speech on the topic "Water-Smart Cities: Building Urban Resilience through Capacity Development" within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku, Report informs.
She noted that water resource problems must be solved for the construction of sustainable cities:
"Wastewater in the world is not being treated. This means the destruction of people's water sources in the coming years. Urban planning and water issues must develop in parallel. Of course, the issue of sanitation must also be taken into account. The discharge of wastewater must be kept under control."
According to Bodur's views, when creating cities, they should be designed in such a way that the people who will live there can use water comfortably:
"Communities and research centers must take action with adapted governance and proper investment. Water resources are not distributed equally around the world."
The director noted that in future discussions at WUF13, the water problem should be placed at the center:
"In the future, the focus should not be on the length and width of cities, but on the quality of life of the people living there."
