Satellite data remains poorly integrated into urban management systems, despite its growing importance for urban planning and analysis of informal settlements, Geza Zimmer, a representative of the United Nations Innovation Technology Accelerator for Cities (UNITAC), said at WUF13 in Baku, Report informs.
According to Zimmer, high-resolution observation data is of great importance when planning the urban environment, especially with regard to informal settlements.
She noted that the problem is complex in nature, as informal settlements differ significantly from one country to another.
According to Zimmer, despite the importance of such data for urban planning, its use remains limited due to the high cost and difficulty of obtaining it.
