Tinatin Kolbaia: Georgia intends to develop unified urban development policy

The Georgian government continues to implement housing programs for internally displaced persons, Tinatin Kolbaia, First Deputy Head of the Agency for Territorial and Urban Development of Georgia, said during an event held as part of WUF13 in Baku, Report informs.

She noted that the government is providing support to civil servants, primarily military personnel and law enforcement officials: "Housing is being built for them. Furthermore, we have a fragmented policy regarding environmental migrants, and regeneration programs are being implemented in the city's historic neighborhoods. Through public-private partnerships, the government is supporting the replacement of dilapidated buildings that have lost their value and the provision of new housing to citizens. However, this policy remains highly fragmented and simplified, and we need a consolidated strategy."

According to Kolbaia, Georgia is experiencing an urgent need for housing. In 2024, with the support of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), a city forum on housing issues was held in the country, at which a commitment was made to create an equitable basis for a unified urban development policy through the adoption of a corresponding declaration.
