Nature-based solutions have been identified as a priority for urban development in Azerbaijan, Umayra Taghiyeva, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, stated during an event held within the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.
The deputy minister noted that this year's World Environment Day, hosted by Azerbaijan, will be marked under the theme Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.
"We are reviewing nature-based solutions within Azerbaijan's urban development priorities. The Socio-Economic Development Strategy 2022–2026 and its extension to 2030 define clean environment and green growth as national priorities. They commit to transforming Karabakh and East Zangazur into net-zero emission zones by 2050. This includes green energy, sustainable agriculture, eco-friendly transport, smart cities and villages, as well as ecosystem restoration and afforestation across thousands of hectares," Taghiyeva said.
