Slovakia proposes joining efforts with Azerbaijan in combating climate change

Slovakia has put forward an initiative to join efforts with Azerbaijan in jointly addressing climate challenges, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Environment of Slovakia Tomáš Taraba told journalists on the sidelines of the World Urban Forum 13.

Report quotes him as saying the two countries have established strong and productive relations.

"International cooperation can develop only when we address issues such as climate change. There is no universal formula that would suit every country. We can overcome these challenges only together.

Today, the urban development sector is under significant pressure, as the updated European Union regulations have considerably tightened requirements. However, Slovakia adheres to a pragmatic approach, and we openly acknowledge that not every solution is justified, because in many cases certain climate strategies in global practice only lead to the impoverishment of the population. That is why it is extremely important to strike the right balance, and we welcome the opportunity to discuss at this forum which measures are truly effective and which are not. This is a practical approach to finding solutions," the deputy prime minister stressed.
