Skačkauskas talks on time losses during document processing at TITR

The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR, Middle Corridor) is currently experiencing time losses during the document submission and processing process, Julius Skačkauskas, Manager of the Transport Innovation Association (TIA) operating in Lithuania, said at the 2nd Caspian International Forum on Transport, Transit, and Logistics in Baku, Report informs.

According to him, this is because each organization, client, and authorized body conducts verification: "One of the important issues related to the Middle Corridor is the procedures and the 'single window' system. We believe that in the future, we need a 'single window' where the carrier or transport company can submit all documents. These documents can circulate between different countries and institutions, and we can establish links between databases. Because currently, we waste time submitting documents, and each organization, each client, and each authorized body conducts verification. Some of them have different documentation requirements. Therefore, if there is a 'single window' and a checklist of what we must provide, we will benefit and save time."

He added that the European Commission recently announced a very ambitious program called Global Gateway, with a budget of approximately €200 billion: "We would like to see some of these funds, as part of the Global Gateway initiative, directed toward the development of the Middle Corridor. Intermodality is a very important issue within the Middle Corridor. Rail infrastructure is very well developed in Europe. For long-distance travel, rail is gradually becoming a preferred option. We can place a semi-trailer or container on a railway platform and transport it over long distances. Therefore, I believe we should consider all routes from Eastern Europe to Kazakhstan."
