At the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku, participants came together to address urbanization problems, climate change, and the challenges they create, Iskandar Zishan, Director General of the Punjab Housing and Urban Development Agency of Pakistan, told Report.
He noted that Pakistan is presenting its activities in the low-income housing sector in Punjab at WUF13:
"Pakistan is presenting the 'Mera Chhat, Mera Ghar' (My Roof, My Home) program here. Through this program, more than 100,000 people in Punjab have been provided with housing, and procedures are ongoing for approximately 60,000 more. Currently, this is one of the largest developing interest-free low-income housing financing programs in the world."
He noted that Pakistan is also studying the experiences of other countries at the forum:
"We are learning from the experiences of other countries regarding initiatives implemented in architecture-based approaches, construction materials, and disaster resilience."
He noted that the Pakistan Pavilion set up at the Urban Expo was essentially built in accordance with the housing model offered by the country:
"The purpose of this pavilion is to showcase all interactive materials and research work. We have also prepared visual displays where we show how this project is one of the largest housing projects in the world. Pakistan is highlighting its success story at the global level."
