Muñoz Santini: Balancing modernity and historic identity is Mexico's priority

Mexico City is one of the most visited tourist destinations, and for its leadership, balancing modernity with historic identity is a priority, Inti Muñoz Santini, Head of the Housing Secretariat of Mexico City, said during the discussion Rethinking Cultural Heritage and Inclusive Urban Regeneration at the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.

He explained that Mexico treats historic monuments as living organisms: "Our commitment is to preserve the historical past. Moreover, we do everything possible to ensure that residents of these neighborhoods are not displaced. For us, the people living in these historic areas are just as important as the buildings themselves."

Muñoz Santini emphasized that heritage should not be used merely as a tourist tool, but must also be integrated into cultural and community approaches to urban development.
