Azerbaijan has created suitable conditions for migrants to live safely and comfortably, Vusal Huseynov, Head of the State Migration Service (SMS) of Azerbaijan, stated during an event held within the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.
Huseynov said that discussions on this issue will not remain limited to WUF13: "Azerbaijan is always open to cooperation on migration and urban planning. Regular meetings are held, and new partnerships are established."
He further mentioned that cities are the places where migration is most strongly felt:
"People encounter new opportunities and challenges here. Urbanization and migration are not only global trends but also closely interconnected processes. Therefore, migration and urbanization issues must be addressed in parallel. Governments today invest heavily in modernization – smart homes, sustainable living spaces, modern infrastructure, and urban projects. Yet the most important factor for community resilience is the human element. Human capital, innovation, creativity, and cooperation are the driving forces of urban development. Physical infrastructure can accelerate growth, but without human-centered governance, even the most advanced systems cannot ensure long-term stability."
The official added that Azerbaijan prioritizes innovation, inclusivity, and rights-based approaches in migration policy: "Our country has become attractive not only for economic development and new opportunities but also for legal and social mechanisms that support migrant integration. This approach ensures that migrants feel safe and accepted in Azerbaijan."
