Newly created water sources in Karabakh and East Zangazur may in the future be used to supply other districts of Azerbaijan with water, Ilham Guliyev, Deputy Head of the Regional Water Melioration Service under the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency (ASWRA), told Report.
According to him, the reservoirs currently being built and planned in the region are primarily intended to meet the water demand of settlements in Karabakh and East Zangazur:
"In the future, if additional demand arises, the possibility of using these water sources for other areas may be assessed. The water reserves envisaged for settlement in the region will be fully sufficient. Even if further needs emerge, the construction of main pipelines from these sources to districts experiencing shortages may be considered. At present, work continues on the creation of new reservoirs and the expansion of water infrastructure in Karabakh and East Zangazur."
