Elchin Babayev: Azerbaijan creating new model of urban development

Azerbaijan is creating a qualitatively new model of urban development, Baku State University Rector Elchin Babayev said at the opening of the international conference on "Shaping Human Capital for Sustainable and Balanced Urban Development" as part of Baku Urban Week, Report informs.

According to Babayev, today's cities in Azerbaijan are not simply being restored, but are being reimagined based on modern requirements.

"Under the leadership of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, we are witnessing a transformation in which cities are not simply being restored, but reimagined. From the construction of liberated territories to the implementation of smart city and smart village concepts, Azerbaijan is creating a new model of urban development," he said.

Continuing on this theme, the rector noted that Baku State University is currently training a new generation of professionals – analysts, urban planners, and innovators – who will become key decision-makers in urban development in the future.

Elchin Babayev emphasized that real urban problems cannot be narrowly classified as economic, geographical, or technological, as they always represent a complex and interconnected set of challenges.
