Azerbaijan mulls hosting ICAO event in 2026/2027

Azerbaijan and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) have discussed the possibilities of holding an international ICAO event in the country in 2026 or 2027, Report informs, referring to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Digital Development and Transport.
These discussions took place during a meeting in Bern, Switzerland, between a delegation led by Azerbaijani Deputy Minister Elmin Mammadov and ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar Gómez and Nicolas Rallo, Regional Director of ICAO's European and North Atlantic Office.
During the meeting, joint projects between ICAO and the Azerbaijan State Civil Aviation Agency under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, including the expansion of cooperation in the training of aviation specialists and training programs, were also in the spotlight.
The parties highlighted the importance of developing personnel in the areas of flight safety, aviation security, and environmental protection, including the adaptation of Azerbaijani specialists to ICAO requirements.
The Azerbaijani delegation informed the ICAO Secretary General about the current status of the Alat Green Airport project being implemented in Alat settlement, noting that the project incorporates an innovative approach to sustainable airport development and compliance with international environmental standards. It was underscored that this project envisages cooperation with ICAO in terms of national and global sustainability goals.
