Azerbaijan meets growing transit demand with digital solutions

Azerbaijan is addressing the rising demand in transit transportation through digital solutions, Aytan Turabova, a representative of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, said at the 2nd Caspian International Forum on Transport, Transit and Logistics in Baku, Report informs.

According to Turabova, global geopolitical processes, the impact of the pandemic, and disruptions in supply chains have changed international freight routes:

"At the same time, cargo turnover between Europe and Asia is increasing year by year. Based on reports from international organizations such as the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), freight volumes along the Middle Corridor are projected to triple by 2030, reaching 11 million tons."

The official noted that this growth trend is already visible in transit transportation through Azerbaijan: "Last year, transit cargo turnover reached 14.3 million tons, which is 2.5 times more compared to 2019. Container transportation amounted to 67,000 TEU, showing a 25 percent increase compared to the previous year. The number of block trains dispatched from China reached 392, marking a 37 percent rise compared to 2024. Meeting the growing demand through digital solutions is no longer a choice but a necessity. Therefore, the application of digital solutions is being expanded to enhance the efficiency, predictability, and sustainability of transport corridors passing through Azerbaijan."
