The concept of adequate housing must also encompass climate risks, Anacláudia Rossbach, Executive Director of UN-Habitat, said in a declaration read on her behalf by Rafael Tuts, Director of UN-Habitat's Global Solutions Division, during the session within the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.
According to Rossbach, environmental sustainability is not an optional addition to adequate housing but an essential dimension: "A home that does not protect its residents from heat, floods, or toxic materials, that irreversibly consumes limited resources, or that disconnects communities from their natural and cultural environment, cannot be considered adequate housing. The recommendations we shape today will form the basis for the policy reforms our housing systems urgently require."
