Nature-based solutions should be part of housing policy and urban development projects, First Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Aghakarim Samadzada said at a session within the framework of WUF13 in Baku, Report informs.
He noted that about 58% of the world's population lives in cities, and urban areas are increasingly exposed to heat waves, floods, water shortages, and other climate risks.
"At the same time, nature is under growing pressure. That is why nature-based solutions should be part of housing policy and urban development projects," Samedzade said.
According to him, it is necessary to maintain a clear balance between urban development and nature conservation.
"Azerbaijan is already applying this approach in its housing and urban policy. Within the framework of the 'Great Return' program, green energy zones, 'smart city' and 'smart village' concepts are being developed in the liberated territories," the deputy minister added.
