Power to be generated from waste in industrial zones of Baku suburbs

India’s Ram Charan company from December this year will create waste management units in Azerbaijan’s industrial zones in the suburbs of Baku and will install units for the generation of at least 200 megawatts of power, Report informs referring to foreign media.

In this regard, a contract worth $700 million was signed between Ram Charan and Azerbaijan-based Kafkans Finanz.

The contract provides for the supply of 20 units with a capacity of 2,000 tons.

The company will build and commission these units in the industrial zones of Azerbaijan to help manage industrial waste.

Both the orders will be completed by the middle of 2023, said Kaushik Palicha, a director of the company, and the third generation of the founding family.

Ram Charan company signed a $2.2-billion deal with the Ghana-based Masri Company to supply waste to energy units that is expected to generate 300 megawatts of power in the African nation.

Palicha said while supplies to the Ghana company will begin from November 2022, the same to Kafkans will begin in December 2022 as he expects to get the proposed manufacturing units up and running by the third quarter of 2022.

On vast price difference between the Ghana and Azerbaijan deals, he said it is based on the number and capacity of the units and the nature of the waste. While for Azerbaijan it is only 20 units with 2,000 ton a capacity to turn simple industrial waste into power, for Ghana this is 43 units with 5,000-ton capacity and the waste is complex given the highly contaminated bauxite mines and cobalt mines the African nation has.
