The work is underway in Azerbaijan to organize the branding and export of textile products, Chairperson of Baku Textile Factory Sakina Babayeva told Report.
She noted that proposals for the export of textile products will be prepared and submitted to the government during the year: “We are currently working on 140 product names. These will be underwear and outerwear. To promote these brands in foreign markets, we plan to sell them both in trading houses created by the Ministry of Economy and at exhibitions organized by the AZPROMO agency, as well as through our enterprises in Turkey. To begin with, we intend to sell and promote our brands in Turkey and through Turkey in other countries. This is our main goal this year.”
Babayeva spoke about the main problems facing the export of Azerbaijani textile products: “The main issue is compliance with international standards. In Europe and the US, standards apply to the textile industry, and we don’t match those standards. Turkey exports more affordable products to Europe. We manufacture high quality products, but we can sell them in our market. Turkey ships affordable products to Russia, Georgia and Europe. Therefore, we cannot negotiate in this direction with European countries. Our textile processing enterprises are not ready for this either.”
Babayeva noted that Georgia is already exporting a large amount of textiles to the US, this project was launched at pilot enterprises: “The state introduces various benefits for these enterprises, exempts from some taxes. The time has come for the application of such benefits in our country. For example, having a preferential electricity tariff for businesses that work night shifts can help us in price competition. We are currently losing on the price market of Russia, Georgia and Uzbekistan.”
The volume of the global textile industry is about $920 billion, and by 2024 it is expected to reach about $1.230 trillion. China is the world’s leading manufacturer and exporter of both textiles and apparel. The textile market is dominated by the countries of the EU, India, the US, Turkey, South Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan and Pakistan.
