Witness of Yekaterinburg incident: 'They laid me on the ground and kicked me'

Ramil Safarov, who was detained by the Russian Federal Security Service in Yekaterinburg and later released, has commented on the incident.

In his statement to Report, Ramil Safarov said that they entered his home at 6 am.

"They broke the door and ransacked the house. They made me lie on the floor and kicked me (shows the injury marks on his body). I'm bruised all over. My vision is poor, I feel dizzy. When they beat me, my nose started bleeding and then they told me to wipe the blood. They did this so they couldn't prove the blood belonged to me," said R. Safarov.

He added that when the Russian Federal Security Service officers entered the house, they didn't show any documents:

"They were beating me in one room and my father in another. They put their feet on my head and asked me to tell them something that my father didn't do. They wanted me to betray him. Otherwise, they said they'd kill me."

According to the witness, they took everything from the house - money, gold items, even their car license plates.

On the morning of June 27, the Russian Federal Security Service raided houses of Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg. During the raid, 2 Azerbaijanis were killed and several people were detained. The killed Azerbaijanis are brothers of well-known Azerbaijani journalist Seyfaddin Huseynli.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan issued a statement on June 28 regarding the attacks by the Russian Federal Security Service on Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg.

Russia's chargé d'affaires in Baku was summoned to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry over the incident in Yekaterinburg, and a strong protest was expressed.
