Azerbaijan strengthens cooperation with EU in legal assistance

On September 18–19, a conference of justice ministers of the Council of Europe on the theme "Cross-Border Cooperation and Mutual Assistance: Strengthening Cooperation in Combating Transnational Crime" was held in Valletta, Malta.
Report informs that, according to the Ministry of Justice, Azerbaijan was represented at the conference by Adviser to the Minister of Justice Seyfalpasha Aliyev.
During the event, Additional Protocol No. 3 to the European Convention on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters (the "Valletta Protocol") was opened for signature.
In this context, Adil Abilov, Chair of the Council of Europe Committee of Experts on the Implementation of European Conventions on Cooperation in Criminal Matters and Head of the Main Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Justice, who authored the draft of this protocol, delivered a report on the necessity of its adoption and its importance for improving work in this field.
In conclusion, a Final Declaration was adopted, outlining measures to enhance the effectiveness of legal assistance.
