The European Union is committed to bridging digital divides, providing reliable and secure infrastructure, and unlocking technological potential across all regions, including through European solutions, EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan Marijana Kujundžić said at the plenary session of the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-25) in Baku, Report informs.
"Today, our work is becoming more complex. Multilateral diplomacy faces serious challenges, and digital technologies can be used as a tool of geopolitical influence. In a polarized and fragmented world, our joint efforts are crucial to ensure that ICT and digital transformation remain part of a global digital order based on rules and fundamental rights," Kujundžić said.
She emphasized that for the EU, technology is never an end in itself: it serves as a tool for social cohesion, economic development, the protection of human rights, and the strengthening of democratic principles, as reflected in the EU's international digital strategy.
"WTDC-25 is a key opportunity to unite efforts to bridge digital divides and leverage ICT for economic and social development: connecting rural areas, supporting sustainable agriculture and fair trade, and creating equal opportunities for girls and women. This is how ICT can transform the lives of millions of people," the ambassador said.
