Arzu Naghiyev: Spread of AI technologies creates legal challenges

The rapid spread of AI technologies has introduced new legal and ethical challenges, Arzu Naghiyev, Member of Azerbaijani Parliament, stated at the 4th National Cybersecurity Forum in Baku, Report informs.

The MP emphasized that Azerbaijan is recognized globally for its proactive steps in this field.

"Now, producing and distributing fake content using a person's image or voice without consent through AI entails criminal liability. Effective legislation, technological oversight, international cooperation, and public awareness play a key role in countering these threats. The Law on Personal Data provides an important legal basis for protecting personal data collected and processed by AI systems. Several legislative improvements have already been made and continue to be introduced," he said.

Naghiyev further said that Azerbaijan pursues a consistent and targeted policy to address new risks posed by AI in digital security and combating cybercrime: "This policy also strengthens national security and enhances our country's position as a reliable partner in the international digital cooperation environment."
