Wang Shengjun: Future of cities requires international cooperation

China will continue its policy aimed at providing its population with affordable, high-quality housing, Wang Shengjun, a representative of China's Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, said at a ministerial roundtable discussion during the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.

He stated that high-quality housing is the foundation for creating a favorable urban environment, sustainable residential neighborhoods, developed communities, and effective development zones.

"We strive to create innovative, livable, sustainable, civilized, and smart modern cities for people. This is the path of urban modernization with Chinese characteristics," he noted.

Shengjun emphasized that China adheres to high standards of design, material selection, construction, and maintenance as key principles in the construction of safe, comfortable, environmentally friendly, and intelligent housing.

He emphasized that special attention is being paid to the modernization of older housing stock in cities. These processes are creating high-quality residential complexes with well-developed infrastructure and high livability.

According to Shengjun, China is also focusing on creating integrated communities that provide safe, healthy, and effectively managed living environments. He noted that renovation is an important tool for creating dynamic urban spaces.

"Cities are the critical infrastructure of urbanization. The future of the world's cities requires global cooperation," he stated, adding that the Chinese government will continue to support housing development in various countries.

He also noted that through World Cities Day and the Sustainable Cities Award, China intends to foster international consensus, strengthen cooperation, and advance the implementation of the New Urban Agenda, which aims to create better living conditions for all people.
